NEAR WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS 12) —

A new potential threat has come up involving mosques and Muslims who worship there.

The threat originated internationally and has gotten the attention of Muslims here in south Florida who fear possible violence as well.

Mosques in London have received a letter declaring April 3 as “Punish a Muslim Day.”

The anonymous letter urges people to engage in violence, by attacking Muslims because “they have made your loved ones suffer.”

The letter encourages people on April 3rd to verbally abuse a Muslim, thrown acid in their face, torture them using electrocution, butcher them using a gun or knife, or burn or bomb a mosque.

“Nothing surprises me but I’m disappointed, shocked. We are very concerned and it would just be prudent of us as the mosque to take some precautions and to take everything seriously,” said Imam Mohamed Ismail, worship leader at the Muslim Community of Palm Beach County, a mosque at 4893 Purdy Lane near West Palm Beach.

Imam Ismail says he has not received any threats.

But on April 3rd he plans to have private security guards or an armed sheriff’s deputy stationed outside the mosque the whole day.

He also plans to tell all of his congregants to be aware of their surroundings.
