Nezar Hamze is originally from Michigan but grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A graduate of Palm Beach State College’s Criminal Justice Institute, he is a Public Safety professional in the State of Florida.

He is also the acting Regional Operations Director for the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in the state of Florida.

Mr. Hamze has 21 years of leadership experience in operations and multi-unit management in the private sector. Since 2008, Nezar has served the Florida Muslim community as a leader who has focused on Civil Rights, Safety and Security, countering the narrative of violent extremists and terrorist organizations.

He founded and directs the Community Empowerment Program (CEP) throughout the state of Florida. The CEP assists individuals in crisis in order to combat violent extremism while preserving the individual’s privacy and civil rights. Mr. Hamze has trained thousands of Muslims as well as members of other faith groups on how to combat violence through community-led efforts and how to work with Law Enforcement to keep society safe.

He is regularly consulted on Islamic and Muslim community affairs by multiple government agencies domestically and internationally to counter violent extremism. Nezar was interviewed on several local, national, and international media outlets including CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC, Al Jazeera, Telemundo, The Washington Post, and the Huffington Post and he also appeared on Comedy Central’s Daily Show with Jon Stewart and on a recent ABC’s 20/20 Special Report with Diane Sawyer.

Nezar is happily married with four teenagers. He enjoys long distance swimming, SCUBA diving, weightlifting, reading, and spending time with his family.
