Meet CAIR-FL

The Council on American-Islamic Relations Florida (CAIR-FL), is a 501(c)3 non-profit civil rights advocacy organization that was established in 2000, to challenge stereotypes of Islam and Muslims and defend civil liberties. CAIR-FL has five offices throughout the state in North Florida, Tampa, Orlando, Southwest Florida and South Florida. The vast majority of CAIR-FL’s work deals with civil rights and immigration. CAIR-FL has consistently won praise from elected officials and the media for its tenacious efforts to combat both discrimination against Muslims and Islamophobia.

EDUCATE PROTECT ADVOCATE

EDUCATE

Through training key players that interact with the Muslim community.

PROTECT

The Florida Muslim community by advocating on their behalf before employers, government bodies and agencies and – if necessary – in court.

ADVOCATE

Through free legal service, community outreach, and educational programs within and outside the Muslim community.

ENHANCING AN UNDERSTANDING OF ISLAM

CAIR-FL has carried out educational campaigns to enhance the public’s understanding of Islam and American Muslims through collaborating with people of other faiths and by providing Islam 101 Diversity Trainings to law enforcement, school administrators, human resources departments, government entities, etc.

To address public misconceptions about Islam and Muslims, CAIR-FL’s employees regularly appear on or are quoted in local, national and international media outlets. CAIR-FL produces public service announcements, and educational resources to help our fellow Americans understand Islam and their American Muslim colleagues, neighbors and fellow members of the society.

PROMOTING JUSTICE

CAIR-FL attorneys and civil rights staff work to protect civil liberties of all Americans. Every year, CAIR-FL staff helps thousands of American Muslims with cases of religious discrimination in the workplace, in schools, at airports, and with government agencies. To prevent civil rights violations, we conduct trainings and public guides about American Muslims for professionals in the private sector with Fortune 500 companies, and in education, health care, law enforcement, and other fields. CAIR-FL publishes free Know Your Rights and Responsibilities guides and delivers free seminars across the state to inform American Muslims of their rights and duties as citizens. We also advocate for justice in American policies by engaging local, state and national government officials.

EMPOWERING AMERICAN MUSLIMS

American Muslims have the ability to contribute to positive change in our nation if they have the right tools and skills. CAIR-FL trains activists and community members on engaging the media, civic engagement, law, government and other spheres in which American Muslims are underrepresented. Each year, CAIR-FL leads voter registration and get-out-the-vote campaigns to empower the Muslim community. Additionally, participants in our internship and volunteer programs receive practical training in the fields of law, civil rights, government and media relations, and community organizing.
