(MIAMI, FL, 7/30/19) –  The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Florida), the State’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called for disciplinary action against two federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers allegedly involved with displaying a noose found at the Miami International Airport.

Local news reported that two TSA officers, whose identities were not released, “were placed on administrative leave while the investigation of the incident was ongoing.”

“TSA security officers should adhere to the highest standards at our ports of entry. The Transportation Security Administration should conclude their investigation of this troubling incident as quickly as possible and take appropriate disciplinary action based on the results of that investigation,” said CAIR-Florida Communications Director Wilfredo Amr Ruiz. Ruiz added:  “Too frequently, we hear of inappropriate and prejudicial behavior by TSA agents when they are engaged with racial, ethnic and religious minorities. This behavior contributes to the xenophobic sentiment stoked by President Trump’s prejudiced rhetoric and discriminatory policies.

CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in bigoted behavior targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump.

Ruiz said CAIR offers a booklet, called “ A Law Enforcement Official’s Guide to the Muslim Community,” which outlines basic information about Islamic beliefs that are relevant to law enforcement.
