(Miami, Fla. 8/5/21) — The Florida Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the State’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a Florida federal magistrate judge’s ruling ordering far-right Islamophobic conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer and her company Illoominate Media to pay CAIR-Florida and the National Chapter almost $125,000 in attorney’s fees and costs stemming from a lawsuit falsely claiming the Muslim civil rights organizations colluded with Twitter to have her banned. CAIR-Florida was represented by Mr. Daren Spielman from The Concept Law Group, P.A., and CAIR-Florida’s legal counsel Omar Saleh.

2. Avowed Islamophobe Laura Loomer Ordered to Pay $120,000 to Muslim Rights Group
Laura Loomer, a self-described ‘proud Islamophobe’ filed this frivolous lawsuit against CAIR-Florida and CAIR National’s chapters. In 2019, the district court dismissed both CAIR and CAIR-Florida from Loomer’s “nonsensical” lawsuit. Loomer had alleged—based on a tale that had long since been revealed not to be true—that CAIR had persuaded Twitter to ban the Islamophobic failed Congressional candidate from Twitter. In reality Loomer’s own hate speech, against many groups, got her banned across most social media platforms.

In a statement, CAIR-Florida’s attorney Omar Saleh stated: "We may never know the true motive behind Laura Loomer’s claims, but we do know her pursuit was an unfortunate waste of time and judicial resources.” Attorney Saleh added, “We also know, and as the court explained, that Loomer’s claims made no sense."
CAIR-Florida's mission is to enhance an understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
