CAIR-Florida Celebrates Record Fundraising in Their 16th Anniversary Banquet in Orlando

(Miami, FL, 10/18/2016) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations - Florida (CAIR-Florida), the state's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization, is celebrating a record fund-raising event that raised over $330,000. The Orlando banquet held Saturday evening was an unprecedented fundraiser for CAIR-Florida in the region.
CAIR-Florida's Chief Executive Director, Hassan Shibly, welcomed the strong response from the Orlando Muslim community. "Our community is backing CAIR-Florida's commitment to protect their civil rights. Because they trust us, they gave us the means to keep providing the tools to ensure their safety, to be informed, and to embolden them to have their voices heard at all levels. This record-breaking fundraiser made us stronger and better able to Advance Justice and Challenge Hate."
This Central Florida Muslim community gathering featured recognized scholars on Islam as well as national celebrities and entertainers. Among the prestigious guests this year was Dr. John L. Esposito, Professor of Religion and International Affairs and of Islamic Studies at Georgetown University; Dean Obeidallah, an American comedian and the host of SiriusXM radio's The Dean Obeidallah Show, and American Muslim Scholar, Imam Sirah Wahhaj. The event was emceed by Amani Al-Khatahtbeh, founder of muslimgirl.net.
