(MIAMI, FL, 3/30/2017) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations - Florida (CAIR - FL), the state's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization, today announced that on Tuesday, March 28th, CAIR-Florida's Central Florida Regional Director, Rasha Mubarak, testified before the Brevard County School Board to block an Islamophobic group's attempt to have Islamic Civilization purged from the school's history courses. ACT! for America is the Islamophobic group and they are a well-known anti-Islam hate organization. ACT!'s Islamophobic intentions were defeated and the School Board voted to continue using the history books without purging references to Islam and the Islamic Civilization.
After years of controversial debates and demands, this issue was finally addressed at a public hearing in Brevard County that included members of ACT!, parents, teachers, and representatives of the County's Muslim community. During this open discussion, ACT! urged the School Board to certain text books under the false allegation that they "seek to foster an Islamic agenda" and claimed that the books were "indoctrinating our kids to radical Islam."
"They are not concerned with how well-informed Brevard County students are or about their futures. They are using our students for their sole intention to push their anti-Islamic agenda," testified Rasha Mubarak, after the slanderous testimony by representatives of ACT! "As educators, as parents, and as concerned residents, we should be offended and ready to defend our students and their right to have an accurate education. This group has zero credibility and we have to remember that their intent remains the same," Mubarak continued.

Brevard County Muslim community members also testified at the hearing. During his testimony, one of those members took the initiative to extend an invitation to the ACT! attendees to visit his Mosque to experience an accurate representation of Islam. After hearing testimony by ACT!, Muslims, CAIR-Florida, and the Brevard County School Board recognized the extreme Islamophobic rhetoric coming from ACT! and rejected their hate-filled demands. The School Board validated that their text books contained an accurate representation of Islamic history appropriate for K-12 students and voted in favor of continuing to use them in their classrooms.
