SUNRISE, Fla. (WSVN) -- An anti-Muslim social media post threatening to burn a place of worship down has sparked concern in South Florida.
A criminal investigation is now underway after the Facebook user threatened to set fire to local mosques. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Florida alerted police after seeing the post.
A CAIR spokesperson said the comments are disturbing. "It's frustrating because there's a lot of good work that our community is putting out there, and when we seem to be advancing in the integration of our community to the rest of the American social fabric, then you hear this hateful voice of this few," said Wilfredo Ruiz, the CAIR spokesperson.
According to the organization, mosques and religious institutions saw the highest number of vandalism in 2015.
