***If you’re asking what you can do, here are some suggestions:
1. The New Jim Crow, by Michelle Alexander
2. How to be an Anti-Racist, by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi
1. 13th, a documentary by Ava DuVernay (Netflix)
2. When They See Us, a documentary about the Exonerated Central Park 5 (Netflix)
1. Call and email District Attorney Mike Freeman at 612-348-5550 and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
*Some of us will spend hours at a rally, but won’t take 2 minutes to make a phone call.* They are logging every call that comes in. If it helps, here’s a sample script:
Hi, my name is […] and I’m calling from [city, state]. I feel incredibly [say how you feel: shocked / saddened / frustrated / angry / hurt, etc.] by the murder of Mr. Floyd. I’m calling to say that all officers who were active or complicit in his death should be charged with murder and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. [If there’s a pause, just ask the person to relay that message to the District Attorney, say thank you, and hang up].
2. Call your masjid leadership, and let them know your community needs to have this conversation – during khutbah, and in your virtual and in-person study circles. If you need support in terms of speakers, contact CAIR Florida at 833-CAIR-FLA and we’ll connect you with community members who can speak to these matters.
